We are dyed-in-the-wool recidivists. Melles & Stein has supported the DKMS in its battle against leukaemia for many years. This year is the third time that we have had all new employees registered in the German Bone Marrow Donor Database. It's so easy to do: a wipe of the inside of the cheek with a cotton swab is all it takes and the sample is then off by post. We pay the cost of typification (€ 50 per employee), of course.
Currently there are seven million potential donors registered worldwide. Of this number, 63,000 are now stem cell donors, which means they also save lives. However, in spite of these efforts, every seventh leukaemia patient who needs a stem cell transplant cannot find a suitable donor. So the motto is "Keep going!" - and we're doing our bit!
