Social Involvement

Accepting Responsibility

Part of Melles & Stein’s philosophy is its social involvement. We make donations and grants to support two initiatives in particular – started by two of our supervisory board members:

Jugendstiftung Erkrath (Erkrath Young Peoples’ Foundation)

The Foundation, which Knut Stein helped to form and now helps to manage, assists numerous educational projects and supports children and young people. These include such things as programmes for truant school pupils, anti-violence training and projects for integrating refugees. http://www.jugendstiftung-erkrath.de/

Freundeskreis Vision Kambodscha (Supporters of Vision Cambodia)

This social initiative formed by Helmuth Kircher focuses on another part of the world. The organisation helps the population obtain access to clean drinking water by constructing wells; it also supports education for the children. http://vision-cambodia.org/de/

DKMS

Another project that is close to our hearts is the DKMS. All our employees have been registered with the German Bone Marrow Donor Database in order to help the fight against leukaemia. All it takes is a single smear of the inside of the mouth with a cotton-swab. The costs are paid by Melles & Stein. About every fifth leukaemia patient who needs a stem cell transplant to survive still can’t find a suitable donor. www.dkms.de
